I’m starting a new series, posting something for writers every week. Some, like this one, will include a portion of my keynote presentation that I use at workshops and conferences.
We’re starting with the Idea, because it’s the foundation of everything. At the Write on the River Workshop we spend a good portion of the first day working on writing just this one sentence; it’s that important. Then we move on to the conflict box, which will be next Saturday’s post. Note the video inside the presentation using Johnny Cash auditioning in Walk the Line as an example of a way for writers to pitch and also use platform.
BTW– there are two slots left for Write on the River 8-9 October. Last one of the year!

Good reminders, Bob. I remember the Johnny Cash video from the workshop you gave to us in Sacramento several years back. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in telling the story, we forget why we started in the first place. (At least I do.)
Thanks for the reminders and the cool slide show.

I hate to tell you this, but your title says ‘For Writer’s”, when it should say ‘For Writers’.
